Parish Council commits to Community Hub

EXCITING NEWS

GREEN LIGHT FOR HUB PROJECT

At a meeting of the Parish Council on Monday evening, it was agreed that the Council would seek to support the purchase  of the Methodist Church, Hall and School Room with the intention of creating a Community Hub, as long as funding can be raised to achieve this.

  • £50,000 of Parish Council funds have been earmarked towards the purchase of the building.

This is in addition to:

  • £10,000 recently awarded by the Architectural Heritage Fund to the South Petherton Community Land Trust for feasibility work and bid writing support.

Approaches are now being made to a range of national and local funding bodies as well as individuals to source the remainder of the money needed to buy the building.

This work is being carried forward by the Community Hub Project Group which includes representatives of the Parish Council, the Community Land Trust and the Community Library.

Your contribution to the Community Survey has informed much of this work. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to play an active part in the Hub’s development.

The project will only succeed with active involvement and engagement from you.

A Facebook page is being set up and a public meeting arranged in the Autumn to enable you to find out more about what promises to be the most exciting community development in South Petherton in decades.

If you can’t wait until then to be involved, please contact one of the project group members, Paul Smith:  paulsmith.pjs@gmail.com
