In 2019 Somerset County Council withdrew funding from South Petherton Library.
In response to this a working group was formed from enthusiastic members of the South Petherton community and they came up with a fully budgeted proposal for the library to remain open.
Their proposal was agreed by South Petherton Parish Council and the library is now funded by Parish Council funds.
The original working group continued their good work and formed Friends of South Petherton Libary and the library service is now better and more popular than it has ever been.
